Go Fishing in West Cumbria with
The River Ehen, located in West Cumbria is classed as a spate river and can, on the right day, offer superb fishing for runs of Sea Trout and Atlantic Salmon. Timing of the runs is very water dependant but in a good year the number of fish caught can reach very respectable levels. The best time to fish for salmon being August onwards to the end of October.
In general fly fishing for sea trout and salmon on the River Ehen is permissible through out the season regardless of water levels on the river. However, the use of spinning rod, reel, multiplier reel, closed face reels, spinning baits and also natural prawn and shrimp bait is strictly prohibited when the water falls below the red low water mark. Under such conditions worming with a weight is allowed. Low water mark indicators (marked in red) are located at Longlands and Wath Brow Bridges.
Association notice boards mark fishing boundaries. Exclusions to Association rights are indicated in red on the relevant maps see MAP section showing river access. See also fishing conditions and WB&EAA Rules.
Note: A separate Longlands permit is required for fly fishing on Longlands. A separate WB&EAA permit is required to fly fish on Ennerdale Water. Anglers must be in possession of a valid permit and appropriate Environment Agency licence prior to commencement of fishing on the River Ehen.
